Week 04 Posting - Honeypots in the darkweb.

So, apart from the applications of using honeypots for cybersecurity research by an organization, I came across different uses for the same concept. In the dark or deep web, there are honeypot sites where law enforcement sets up these bait domains so that they can monitor the suspicious behavior of different individuals who may have visited the sites. Some of those are hitmen-for-hire and are the most popular ones. Many lives have been saved, and those who wanted to pay for the assassination have been arrested using honeypots. So, using them for more than just cybersecurity goes a long way. It has even assisted law enforcement in catching stupid people who want to hire assassins to take out their husbands or wives because they want to get their inheritance and start over. At least in prison, they'll get their new start away from the worries of normal society.

Week 03 Posting - Pwn2Own

While researching this week's topics to do my assignments, I ran into a competition called Pwn2Own. It's a hacking contest held every year in which contestants are given a device to hack into, and if they manage to "pwn" the device, they get to keep it. I love this idea of ethical hacking for the fun of it on the world stage. It allows corporations working on new software to bring it into the competition and have the contestants find vulnerabilities in them for prizes. It's a win-win for both parties since the corporations get a first-hand look at vulnerabilities in their software or hardware so that they can patch them before the service goes live, and the contestants get to win prizes like money. It's been happening since 2007, and I am excited to check it out next year.

Week 02 Posting - More than I thought. (SLA)

Today, I learned while researching more about SLAs that they aren't always just contract-providing software, and that is that. I thought it was to use a provider software and the breach of contract was solely on the side of the customer, like if they decided to move to a new provider before their contract was finished or if they used another software or service that is explicitly stated in the contract that they are not allowed to use while using their services. I was unaware that physical services, such as customer support, were a thing, and now it makes absolute sense with hindsight. How could you not have someone to contact if you are using a provider to cover network security with their suite of software and services? If anything happens to the network, you need them to respond immediately and remedy the issue, so you make a contract for services like this. It isn't a one-sided deal where you install their software and then are left high and dry to fend for yourself.

Week 01 Posting - Intro

This is my third-semester writing blogs as an assignment. I wanted to give more information about myself and my journey. I am thirty-five years old and moved back to my hometown after living in Northern California for a couple of years. I felt like nothing was happening and wasn't moving toward anything career-wise. I returned to my hometown to begin working and finish my degree, which I had put on pause for a long time. Working at Target has dramatically benefited me since they are paying for my entire degree. I am projected to be finished by July-ish. I saw that they would also help me reach a master's degree, and I am unsure whether or not I want to go that route, but I will figure that out when I am closer to finishing my Bachelor's. Thanks for coming by and reading this!

Week 12 Posting - Write about my choice of topics.

I never had a set goal on what I wanted to blog about until the end, after finishing all of the week's assignments. I wanted to leave m...
